For some people, running can feel like the worst activity imaginable. But for Evan Williams, running is a central part of his life. The senior commit to IU Bloomington just broke multiple school and state records this past month in the indoor track season.
Williams competes in the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles for both Lawrence Central High School and his club team. In addition to breaking multiple records, he competed at the New Balance Track and Field Nationals in Boston in March, where he finished second in the 60-meter hurdles, earning a national ranking of No. 2.
Just two weeks later, Williams competed at the Indiana indoor state track and field finals, where he broke meet records in both the 60-meter hurdles and the 60-meter dash. He also set a new state record in the 60-meter hurdles. Leaving him ranked No. 1 in the state of Indiana.

Despite breaking numerous records, Evan is still a high school student balancing everyday responsibilities. When asked in an interview how he manages school, track, and his personal life, he kept his advice simple: “Do your homework.”
Continuing to keep his responses brief, Evan was also asked how he felt coming off such a remarkable season. His response was simple: “It’s sweet.”
These responses are not unusual for Evan. Anyone who knows him describes him as a calm and relaxed person who takes life one day at a time.
“ Outside of the track, he’s a fun teammate for the kids to have. Yes he’s an elite athlete and a national level talent but his personality is the type of kid that makes practice fun.” Coach Glover explained. Coach Glover also stated that Evan can easily leave LC with a couple of records broken
Evan’s senior year is not over yet. He is set to compete in the outdoor season, which will begin soon, giving him another opportunity to break more records and maintain his national ranking. When asked about what he is looking forward to with going to college he said “ I am looking forward mostly to the higher competition environment and facility use.”
Williams’ track career will not end after high school. The senior has committed to Indiana University Bloomington, where he plans to compete for the team beginning in the fall.
He’s not a bird. He’s not a plane. He’s a runner—a track star.
