Janet Xique is a former Lawrence Central alumni who graduated in 2013. During the 10 years, post graduation, she started 3 businesses and is currently working towards a nursing degree.
Janet started making flower bouquets for herself and family members in 2019. People started to notice, and word spread quickly of Janet’s skill, so she devoted a little bit of her time to making flower arrangements. “I started to get more orders so I decided to focus on it, I started doing research and practicing more.” Most of her work is left up to her to be creative putting different flowers and foliage together.
Xique also has her cosmetology license and does makeup, hair and acrylic nails , when she has the time. So far, around 150 flower arrangements have been made in the span of 2 years.
Her goals are to finish school in May as a licensed practical nurse. She plans to go back to school eventually to get her RN and bachelors. As of now, she is getting a lot of job opportunities but plans to wait and expand her options before choosing the best fit.
“It gets hard sometimes but just reminding myself how far I’ve come. Staying disciplined. Sacrificing sleep or missing out on something. Priorities like studying instead of hanging out with family or friends.” Janet states.
Hoping that she tries to show hard work pays off for school and to be passionate about things she does. Some days she can do everything at once such as in the morning make a flower bouquet in order for it to be picked up later in the day then go to class/clinic and finally go home to study or go to work. She usually likes to be organized and have small breaks in between things she does. Janet still plans to advance her business as time goes on.
