Gum under desks is a common problem in schools, but it is something that many people find disgusting and disrespectful. When people stick their gum under tables, it creates a mess that others have to deal with. Rashad Barber, Sophomore, says that “ it’s gross and I highly dislike it”. Most of the students agree with Rashad because gum is dirty and can easily get on someone’s clothes or hands, which is gross and unnecessary.
Tristan Smith, Sophomore, also states “putting gum under the desk is childish behavior especially since we are in high school now.” Smith also goes on to say that when he sees gum under the table, he thinks the people who did it are immature, and he does not do it because he feels he is above that behavior. A plethora of students share this opinion because leaving gum behind shows a lack of responsibility. Instead of being lazy people should throw their gum away properly in a trash can.
Mrs. Ayette adds another important perspective as a teacher. “I often have to clean up the gum, it’s gross” She does not like that people leave their mess for others to handle. The students strongly agree with her because it is unfair for adults and janitors to clean up something that students caused. Overall, most students do not like when people put gum under desks, and it is disrespectful, messy, and shows poor character.
